HRH Princess Alexandra and her Patronages

The London Philharmonic Choir is honoured to have HRH Princess Alexandra as its Royal Patron. A lifelong supporter of the arts, Her Royal Highness has attended many of our performances, including special concerts at the Royal Festival Hall and Westminster Abbey. Her patronage reflects a shared commitment to musical excellence and community engagement, inspiring our collaborations with charities across London.

Alzheimer’s Society

In a particularly memorable event, Her Royal Highness invited the Choir to perform at a special concert at Buckingham Palace featuring the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the ‘Singing for the Brain’ group from the Alzheimer’s Society, and other choirs with singers living with dementia. The event celebrated the profound impact of music in enhancing the lives of those affected by dementia and showcased the unifying power of choral performance.

Crisis and homelessness charities
Ring the Bells for Crisis
Ring the Bells for Crisis

The Choir admires greatly the work of Crisis and its commitment to end homelessness. In 2019, the Choir led a nationwide initiative encouraging choruses across the UK to perform Paul Fincham’s Ring the Bells. Through concerts and fundraising events, more than £9,000 was raised for Crisis and other homelessness charities. The Choir released a recording of the carol on the LPO label and both Fincham and the Choir have pledged all royalties to Crisis in perpetuity.

Save the Children

Through the London Philharmonic Orchesra, the Choir has a long-standing relationship with Save the Children, each year performing carols inside Waterloo Station while fundraising for the charity’s mission of improving the lives of young people globally.

London Youth Choirs

Berlioz: The Damnation of Faust
Berlioz: The Damnation of Faust

Our work with the London Youth Choirs focuses on supporting the deveelopment of the next generation of choral singers. Members of the London Youth Choirs have joined us for significant performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, including Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski and Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust conducted by Edward Gardner. Through these collaborations and our now annual Christmas concerts, young singers have had the invaluable opportunity to perform alongside a professional orchestra in a major concert venue.

TanDun’s Buddha Passion

As part of our commitment to cultural exchange through music, we have enjoyed working with the London Chinese Philharmonic Choir on a unique performance of Tan Dun’s Buddha Passion, celebrating the fusion of Eastern and Western musical influences. The concert was performed under the baton of the composer himself and future collaborations are currently being discussed.
